Summary

This work presents a test facility, built in order to investigate heat transfer and pressure drop of boiling CO2 in a microchannel 0.7 mm of inner diameter. The working conditions cover mass flux in the range 280 to 900 kg m−2 s−1, heat flux ranging from 10 to 30 kW m−2, vapor quality ranging from 0 to 0.98 while the saturation temperature is 0°C. The results show that the pressure drop increases with the mass flux. For high mass flux and low vapor quality, typical patterns are bubble flow or slug flow. Heat transfer enhancement between the inlet and the outlet of the tube is stronger when vapor quality is high at the entrance of the channel (x>0.2). Variations of the heat transfer coefficient are more important in the first half length of the tube (30 mm < z < 90 mm).
