Experimental methods of the magnetocaloric effect studies.

Number: sect. 2

Author(s) : SPICHKIN Y. I., GIMAEV R. R.

Summary

The methods of experimental investigations of the magnetocaloric parameters (adiabatic temperature change and isothermal magnetic entropy change caused by external magnetic field) are reviewed and discussed. The direct and indirect methods are compared and their advantages and disadvantages are considered owing to the resulting data. A main attention is paid to the first type methods, in particular considering the realization of the dynamic mode of direct adiabatic temperature change measurements. Emphasize is made on the magnetocaloric measurements in dynamic mode to properly characterize the magnetocaloric materials suitable to be used as working bodies in magnetic heat machines. More generally, all methods of experimental data processing and analysis are discussed.
