Summary

The conductivity of water repellent and 100% amorphous granular aerogel, can be as low as 0.014 watt/milliK, 30% better than CFC blown PU foams. Further reduction to 0.003 watt/milliK can be achieved that reduced atmospheres. Several feasibility studies with preindustrially produced aerogel have been performed in the past months: refrigerators insulated with aerogels showed a substantial contribution to the energy performance. Float glass elements evacuated and filled with aerogel as well as aerogel insulated polyester lightwalls and bubble skylights yield excellent U-values and significantly reduced energy losses in buildings.
