Summary

The article presents the recent impressive development of cryogenics in China. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Chinese government established research and teaching institutions in the field of cryogenics at a number of universities which are still active. The Chinese government also set up a number of design and manufacturing enterprises for the manufacture of cryogenic gas and air separation equipment. These enterprises were strategically located around China and are still in existence today. A chronicle of events: cryogenic and industrial gas equipment in China is presented as well as examples of local market booms.
