Summary

A new three-stage pulse-tube refrigerator (PTR) is developed by scaling down a previous PTR by 50%. The new system is small insize and weight, capable of operating using little input power, and uses a small amount of working gas and regenerator material. In addition to that, the system is flexible and convenient for modifications. The volume of the low-temperature part of the newPTR is as small as 0.28 l. With 3He as a working fluid, a no-load temperature of 1.73 K is reached and a cooling power of 124 mW at 4.2 K is realized.
