Summary

Conventional air source heat pump and no-frost air source heat pump can be categorized as general air source heat pump. The physical characteristics and energy consumption of general air source heat pump system in a frost / defrost cycle is analyzed based on the first law of thermodynamics and a generalized performance model is deduced, which can be used for the prediction of performance difference and optimization of existing technologies. This model provides not only a theoretical basic for the development of frost-free air source heat pump, but also a basis for annual performance evaluation of air source heat pump systems.
