Summary

Displacer type pulse tube refrigerator has been the emphasis of research in refrigeration due to its high theoretical efficiency and wide refrigeration temperature range from 77 K to near room temperature. A pulse tube refrigerator with displacer as phase shifter was built and tested. According to the results, there is an optimum displacer rod diameter for getting high efficiency when the parameters of the mass-spring-damper system in displacers almost keep constant. The results also indicated that the cooling power 120 W was obtained at 178.8 K with the input power 684.6 W, which leaded to an efficiency of 11.2% of Carnot, about 25% higher when the inertance tube phase shifter was replaced by displacer.
