Summary

In this work, we demonstrate the two-phase flow boiling heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of ammonia (R717) inside a horizontal aluminum multiport tube. The tube has 9 parallel channels with a hydraulic diameter of 0.96 mm each and the evaporation length is 200 mm. The experimental data were performed at saturation temperatures of 6°C, the heat flux of 3 and 6 kW/m2, the mass flux varied from 50 to 150 kg/m2s and the quality up to a unit. The results show that the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop are strongly influenced by the mass flux but are slightly affected by the heat flux. To validate the data, the heat transfer coefficient data were also compared with various correlations in the literature.
