Summary

The market potential for cooling and air conditioning in South European countries is very good. The best outlook exist in the low capacity range (lower than 50 kilowatts). Theoretically, the technology exists for realizing the solar air conditioning by thermal collectors and sorption refrigeration machines. The optimization in the field of collectors as well as in refrigeration machines may improve the efficiency and the return on investments of the plant. First results of simulation calculations show that even with the current technology, in particular in regions with an important need of room cooling, the use of a solar system is already economically possible. The advantage is that the collectors do not only run the refrigeration machine, but that they also can supply sanitary hot water or hot water for the heating.
