Thermo-economic optimisation of a single-effect absorption chiller and cooling tower.

Author(s) : TOZER R., LOZANO M. A.

Summary

The paper describes the application of thermoeconomic analysis to practical application case studies, consisting of single-effect absorption chillers driven by a cogeneration plant. The objective of the paper is to optimize the design of the cooling tower parameters to minimize capital and/or life cycle costs. The cogeneration plant supplies heat to the absorption chiller and electricity to the cooling tower fan, condenser water pumps and to the rest of the electrically driven plant. Capital and life cycle costs are calculated, taking into account numerous parameters (cooling tower flow and temperature, equivalent full load cooling hours, temperature of engine exhaust gas, etc.).
