Two-phase pressure drops in horizontal tubes: new results for R410A and R134a compared to R22.

Author(s) : QUIBEN J. M., THOME J. R.

Summary

Two-phase flow pressure drops were measured during evaporation and adiabatic conditions for R410A, R134a and R22 at 5 °C inside two plain horizontal tubes for vapour qualities from 2 to 96% and mass velocities from 70 to 500 kg/m2s. Both test sections had an internal diameter of 13.84 mm. The experimental results were compared to three two-phase frictional pressure drop correlations: Friedel, Grönnerud and Müller Steinhagen-Heck. While all three provided partial agreement at some mass velocities, they either significantly overpredicted or underpredicted the data at the other mass velocities and did not reliably capture the trends observed. The new data cover the following flow regimes: stratified-wavy, intermittent, annular, annular with partial dryout and mist flow.
