Energy conservation in ocean-going refrigerated container transportation.

Author(s) : HAN H., GAN W.

Summary

Multipurpose refrigerated containers operate 75-85% of the time under part-load conditions during Europe-Asia and America-Asia voyages, because of the sea area and marine atmospheric effect. The coefficient of the performance at part heat is responsible for the total power consumption. In the paper, the focus is on both the simulation models of the heat transfer characteristics and variable frequency energy saving with an integrated inverter. By modulating the speeds of variable speed scroll compressors in relation to the current heat load reduction, considerable energy savings appear possible under part heat load.
