Summary

In order to investigate the performance of evaporator running in low temperature more precisely, a numerical simulation model has been developed to calculate the process of the heat and mass transfer. In the model the fluid condition of the moist air flowing cross the fin-tube is divided into three classes, which are the laminar, transition and turbulence flow, according to the Reynolds number based on hydraulic diameter. The accumulation of frost that forms outside the evaporator is simulated by the quasi-steady state approach. Through comparing the calculated results with experimental data, some valuable results are obtained, several methods that can be used to improve the performance of evaporator are also proposed in the paper.
