Experimental study on explosion limits of a new alternative refrigerant to HCFC-22.

Author(s) : CHEN Q., CHEN G. M., ZHANG R.

Summary

A new mixture of HFC-161, HFC-125 and HFC-32 is considered to be a promising alternative refrigerant to HCFC-22. It is necessary to study the explosion limits of the ternary mixture to ensure the safety in its application. An experimental apparatus with high accuracy was established to test the explosion limits of flammable refrigerants. The explosion limits of flammable pure and binary refrigerants of the HFC-161/125/32 systems were tested. On the basis of the experimental data, the critical flammability line of mixtures HFC-161/125/32 was analysed. Refrigerant mixtures composed of flammable refrigerants and retardative agents have been developed to inhibit the flammability of the refrigerants. The present study is beneficial to solve the problem of safety in the manufacturing and storing of this new flammable refrigerant.
