Numerical analysis for radiated noise from the accumulator of rotary compressor for air conditioner.

Author(s) : HUANG Z., JIANG W. K., LIU C. H., et al.

Summary

The accumulator contributes a lot to the overall radiated noise level of rotary compressor for air conditioner, in which pressure pulsation plays an important role. The unsteady turbulent flow field and pressure pulsation are obtained using finite volume method, which shows that pressure pulsation of the standpipe is the main flow noise source. Based on the flow field characteristic, the inlet of L-type standpipe is changed into wedged and the gap between standpipe and baffle is increased for reducing the pressure pulsation. CFD simulations show that the amplitude of pressure pulsation for improved accumulator is obviously lower than that of previous one in the frequency band of 100-3000 Hz. Finally, radiated noise from the accumulator is predicted with the finite element and boundary element method, which shows that sound power level of improved accumulator is greatly reduced.
