A computer simulation study on the distribution of the contamination release from a clean garment.

Summary

Detached fabrics from garments can contaminate clean rooms, more so due to human motion that can amplify the release of contamination. In this study, a 3D computer model was used to determine the particle distribution of the contamination release from the clean garment. A human model was simulated with different airflow conditions. Points of contamination release from the human model were considered at points such as neck and armpit, where garment are usually worn out more. Mixing of the contamination into the flow stream will allow an estimation of the contamination release by sampling of contamination concentration at different levels. Two different human models were used in this study, one with arms at rest and the other with the arms rose 30 degrees. It was found in the computer simulation that sampling points could be found such that concentration will be measured to approximate the levels of dilution of contamination into the air stream. It is also shown that that computer simulation can be used to help finding the proper sampling points. The results of this study will contribute to the design of garment testing
