Summary

Efforts have been made to the expander which replaces the throttle valve in medium and large refrigeration and heat pump system in this paper. Due to the large expansion ratio of conventional refrigerants, the two-rolling piston expander has been chosen. After the theoretical analysis and calculation to the main structural parameters and the force analysis of main components, we found that the friction loss between the slide and rolling piston and between the slide and grooves are relatively large. While, the simulation results reveal that the theoretically recoverable expansion work accounts for 3% ~ 5% of the compression work in a conventional refrigeration system with an expander replacing throttle which contribute a up to 6% ~ 10% increment on the system efficiency.
