Research of lubrication oil applied to a R290 rotary compressor.

Number: pap. ID: 635

Author(s) : CHEN Z., GAO B.

Summary

For environmental protection, R290 has attracted great attention as an alternative refrigerant in room air conditioning systems. Since R290 has much better miscibility with oil than that of HCFCs and HFCs, in addition, as a flammable refrigerant, the demand to limit refrigerant charge amount in R290 RAC system is becoming key in its application. Therefore, the selection of lubrication oil is an important issue during the development of R290 rotary compressor. Firstly, the effect of the characteristics of lubrication oil, particularly the solubility and solution viscosity, for R290 rotary compressor is analyzed. Then, the compressor performance and life test have been conducted and the system performance including refrigerant charge amount and oil superheat has been estimated with several kinds of lubrication oil, including mineral oils and synthetic oils. Based on these experimental results, two types of lubrication oils were chosen to carry on further investigations. Finally, work for the next step is prospected.
