Summary

The use of flexible transfer lines at liquid helium decant stations is characterised by high evaporation losses. During the development of a new low-loss transfer line the pressure drop of the flexible section was identified as one main loss factor. Therefore, a new cryostat has been built to examine different corrugated tubes in the respective diameter range. Influences of the tube diameter, the pitch, and the corrugation type on the specific pressure drop are intended to be examined. All measurements are conducted with cold gaseous helium and liquid helium to achieve results over a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The aim of the on-going test series is to review published correlations and to provide an extended pressure drop correlation valid in the respective parameter range.
