Summary

In the present paper, a new refrigerant mixture R32/R290 with a mixed ratio of 68%/32% by weight is proposed as the drop-in replacement for R410A in household air conditioners. By utilizing the mixed refrigerant, the GWP is reduced to 22% of that of R410A. Analytical and experimental investigations are conducted in the paper on the performance of the air conditioners with both the mixed refrigerant R32/R290 and R410A. The experiment results indicate that the refrigerant charging amount of the R32/R290 system is reduced by 30.0% to 35.0% than that of the R410A system; the cooling capacities is increased by 14.0%; the discharge temperature and COP is close to that of the R410A system.
