Ventilation for ammonia systems.

Number: pap. 1108

Author(s) : PEARSON A.

Summary

The requirements for ventilation of ammonia machinery rooms are detailed in safety standards such as EN378, ISO5149 and ASHRAE15, however these only cover some of the circumstances in which ventilation is required, and are frequently misunderstood and misapplied. This paper presents a complete guide to the design and installation of ventilation systems for all parts of ammonia systems and gives an insight into the ways in which the safety standards are likely to develop over the next few years. The paper includes details of common mistakes which are made in the design of systems and seeks to provide a single source for design information. Guidance on the retrofit of ventilation to existing systems and the introduction of ammonia to existing buildings is also given.
