Summary

In order to reduce refrigerant charge, tube sizess of the heat exchanger are reduced, the number of heat exchanger paths of refrigerants have increased. Therefore, the design technologies of vertical headers are recently getting stronger attention. This paper, present results of, two-phase flow distribution characteristics obtained in experimentally investigation of flow through vertical header for different refrigerant mass flux and vapor quality. The experiment is conducted for R32 and R410A. The effects of mass flux, vapor quality and refrigerant properties on two-phase flow distribution are discussed.Mal-distribution in the vertical header is caused by no liquid reaching the top of header and colliding at top of the header. In addition, the modified header prediction model shows good agreement with the present experimental data.
