Summary

Along with the rapid growth of energy demand for space heating, traditional residential heating supply method of coal-fired boiler has brought serious pollution problems in north China. It is urgent to develop new efficient and cleaner heating method, fully replacing the traditional boiler heating method and achieving the goal of energy saving, emission reduction and environment protection. Heat pump technology has been widely accepted for heating and cooling both of residential and commercial buildings. Due to the diverse weather features for different climate zones, the situations for winter are complicated and correspondingly the heat pump systems for heating could be with various forms. To promote the development of air source heat pump in practical applications, it is necessary to investigate the favorable heat pump systems and their best fit terminals for different climate zone. For the hot-summer and cold-winter zone, the conventional heat pump can meet the requirement of heating in winter and cooling in summer as long as the suitable terminal is selected, such as small temperature difference fan-coil unit. To prevent the performance degradation of air source heat pump in cold regions, vapor injection heat pump and radiant floor heating is the best heating combination. Typical filed test results are introduced to compare the system performance in different ambient temperature. Meanwhile the multi-stage compression heat pump, cascade heat pump and combined R134a and transcritical CO2 heat pump systems are introduced to show the application perspective in severe cold regions. The heat pump system with two-stage variable volume ratio compressor and new bimetal radiator/radiant floor heating terminal may be a promising heating method for severe cold region. In general, heat pump and terminal must be fitted and optimized for different climate zones.
