Summary

A novel hybrid system of liquid desiccant and CO2 transcritical cycles is proposed, where the compressor exhausted heat with high temperatures is used to regenerate desiccants. And hence, heat with large temperature glide of the CO2 transcritical cycle could be utilized efficiently. The model of the hybrid system is built and the thermodynamic analysis is carried out. The liquid desiccant cycle uses LiCl solution as desiccants, which dehumidification capacity equals that of a 5kW air conditioning system. From the analysis, moisture contents of the inlet humid air and the solution cooling temperatures are the main parameters, which affect dehumidification performance of the liquid desiccant cycle. With the cooling temperature of the desiccant decreased, COP of the
liquid desiccant cycle can be increased to 0.6, at least. Comparing with conventional cooling dehumidification systems, evaporation temperature of compression cycle could be increased to 11? and compression work of the hybrid system could be reduced by about 11.5%. While the desiccant cooling temperature is reduced, the evaporation temperature could be increased to 12? and compression work could be reduced by about 15.6%. In addition, the hybrid system can reduce temperatures of the humidified air by using the evaporation heat of the CO2 transcritical cycle. Thus, independent control of temperature and humidity could be efficiently achieved by the hybrid system.
