Summary

THE OPTIMIZATION OF A MECHANICAL AND THERMODYNAMIC PROJECT FOR LOW CAPACITY HELIUM EXPANSION TURBINES IS THE BASIC CONDITION FOR OBTAINING A HELIUM LIQUEFACTION UNIT WITH A HIGH EFFICIENCY. A CHECK ON THE LONG-TERM OPERATION OFTHE TURBINES SHOWS THAT THE DESIGN WITH AN ELECTROMAGNETIC EDDY-CURRENT BRAKE AND GAS BEARINGS IS SUITABLE. PRACTICAL TESTS AGREE WITH THEORY.
