Summary

A single-stage Stirling type pulse tube cryocooler (PTC) precooled by a two-stage GM type PTC is designed to investigate the cooling performance of the Stirling type PTC working at liquid-helium temperature. An inertance tube instead of other phase shifters is used to improve the efficiency of the Stirling type PTC. The inertance tube and the gas reservoir of the Stirling type PTC are placed at the second stage cold end of the GM type PTC for better phase relationship between pressure and mass flow.
