Presentation of the main types of heat exchangers used in air-conditioning systems: U-type shell and tube heat exchanger, fixed plate heat exchanger, floating head heat exchanger, stuffing box heat exchanger. Advantages and limitations are presented and the refrigerant charge issue is considered (see also this Bulletin, reference 2008-2091).
