Résumé

This short communication reevaluates the influence of the suction-to-liquid heat exchanger effectiveness on the specific refrigerating effect in the evaporator, the specific volume at the compressor inlet, and the compression work, including the suction line pressure drop into the analysis. Refrigerants of current interest like R134a, R600 and R600a under conditions typical of household refrigerating appliances (40 °C/ -25 °C), and R1270, R290 and R32 for air conditioning applications (40 °C/7 °C) were considered. Results for R134a and R290 under conditions typical of commercial appliances (40 °C/ -10 °C) are also reported. It is shown that the system COP may increase or decrease with the effectiveness, depending not only on the refrigerant properties, but also on the temperature lift and the suction line pressure drop, so that a highly effective suction-to-liquid heat exchanger might degenerate the system COP
