Chauffage, ventilation et conditionnement d'air dans les voitures : conception des systèmes frigorifiques.

HVAC in cars: design of the refrigeration system.

Auteurs : LEBRUN J.

Résumé

This paper presents a general survey of car AC design and development. Focus is given on the most popular refrigeration cycle, R134a, but some other alternatives (as the CO2 cycle) are also discussed. The design process is described. The problem is difficult: HVAC engineers have to deal with the car "as it is", with very high loads and very little space reserved to AC equipment. The question whether it would be justified to replace the present R134a cycle by other fluids and other cycles is still broadly open. CO2 might be or become a serious "competitor". But would it not be wiser to go back to the car design and to try to reduce a bit the cooling loads?
