Résumé

Amongst the natural refrigerants, carbon dioxide (CO2 or R744) is of special interest because it is non-flammable and it has a low toxicity and a low global warming potential. This paper presents the results of a thermodynamic analysis on blends containing R744 plus HCs (R170, R1150, R290, and R1270) and RE170. The analysis was conducted using these blends as the fluid in the low stage of a cascade cycle. The thermodynamic model used in the analysis is based on the Carnahan-Starling-De Santis equation of state, implementing binary interaction parameters derived from data in the literature. The investigation was conducted at fixed temperatures, i.e. 203 K at the low-stage evaporator, and 313 K at the high-stage condenser. The temperature of the low stage (203 K) is below the normal melting point of R744 (216.59 K). The intermediate temperatures and the mixture compositions were optimized with a view to achieving the highest possible COP.
