Résumé

The objective of this research is to investigate the hydrodynamic behaviour of the regenerator of pulse tube refrigerators considering porous media approach. The conservation equations are transformed by the method of volume averaging. This method as an analytical approach is used to unite the micro scale and macro-scale effect characteristics to porous media flows. A method of harmonic approximation is employed to derive an analytical solution. To investigate the system performance, second law analysis is performed and the second law efficiency is calculated. The effect of geometry and operating key parameters on regenerator performance are investigated as well. With the developed model it is able to predict the oscillating flow and heat transfer in the regenerator. To determine the optimum operation conditions that minimize process irreversibility the method of entropy generation minimization is employed. To validate the model, results are compared with experimental and numerical data in the literature.
