Résumé

To increase the photovoltaic (PV) efficiency of solar cells, air and water streams were often used to cool down the PV modules. However, such an advantage diminishes when the solar irradiance is high (say at noon). Therefore, a novel system was proposed that the PV/T collector is coupled with a solar assisted heat pump and works as an evaporator at the same time. The cooling effect of the refrigerant allows the PV modules to work at lower temperature and its photovoltaic efficiency is improved as a result. Mathematical model has been developed to simulate the complex energy conversion process of the system. An experimental rig was also built to test the real performance of the system. Results indicate that this photovoltaic solar assisted heat pump (PV-SAHP) has a superior COP and photovoltaic efficiency. Under the experimental conditions, the COP of the heat pump was able to reach 8.2, the average value was about 6.3, and the average photovoltaic efficiency was around 13.5%.
