Résumé

A central challenge in cooling science today is the development of air conditioning and refrigeration system that is compact; virtually free of moving parts, highly reliable, free of toxic and environmentally-harmful substances, high COP and available at affordable price. In this study, we have proposed a novel hybrid refrigeration and air conditioning system that symbiotically combines the processes of mechanical vapour compression and solid vapour adsorption, and uses carbon dioxide (CO2) as the refrigerant. The proposed hybrid system uses functional activated carbon (type Maxsorb III) as the adsorbent. It incorporates solely existing technologies. This simulation results show that the proposed system can attain large cooling power at high COP, which is approximately two to three times higher than that of conventional CO2 based vapour compression cycle. This proposed hybrid system is targeted for air-conditioning applications in automobiles and in building sectors.
