Résumé

This work presents an experimental study on the thermal performance and efficiency potential of an inverter-driven household refrigerator-freezer (HRF) using hydrocarbon isobutene R600a to replace HFC-134a for refrigeration system. Two HRF samples of the same cabinet model for R600a and HFC-134a are tested under the steady ambient and closed-door condition following the CNS-2062 standard in Taiwan. The instant power and temperature variations of the HRF samples are detected for over 24 hours with the specified average temperatures of the freezer, refrigerator and ambient as well as the relative humidity set at -18, 3, 30°C, and 75% respectively. Brushless DC reciprocating compressor is applied to regulate the refrigeration capacity for each studied HRF with refrigerant charge of 80 and 130 g for R600a and HFC-134a. The replacement possibility of HFC-134a by R600a for an inverter-driven HRF model is also assessed from the exploration of the studied results. The inverter-driven HRF of R-600a consumes 1.426 kWh for 24 hours with 14.1% lower than that of the HFC-134a HRF sample.
