Technologie à absorption à cycle ouvert et à déshydratant.

Open-cycle absorption and desiccant technology.

Auteurs : GROSSMAN G.

Résumé

The increasing demand for air conditioning in the world has caused a growing burden on available energy resources, and particularly on the supply of electric power. Desiccant systems for cooling and dehumidification stand as a good alternative to conventional electric-powered cooling systems. They are capable of using low-grade heat such as industrial waste heat or solar heat from low-cost flat plate collectors as their source of power, and have the potential to provide both cooling and dehumidification, as required by the load. Desiccant systems are exceptionally good at dehumidification, thereby taking care of the latent heat load. This article aims to describe the technology of desiccant systems for HVAC applications. The principles of operation of the desiccant system (also known as open-cycle absorption/adsorption) are explained. The types of desiccants suitable for air-conditioning systems are surveyed. A description of desiccant systems, both solid and liquid, is given, with the equipment used in their practical implementation.
