Résumé

The paper illustrates the results of a numerical study carried out to investigate energy features of heat pumps used for space heating whose evaporator is made by solar collector field. The analysis is carried out through a steady state mathematical model, considering four different surfaces of the solar collector field and two different working fluids, respectively R134a and R407C. Several simulations are carried out in order to analyse the effect of outdoor air temperature and solar radiation on heat pump COP, collector field surface usage and compressor rotation frequency. Results show that the heat pump working with R134a requires higher surface of the solar collector field but provides higher COP. Moreover, the use of a modular solar collector field and of a variable speed compressor is essential for the heat pump to properly match building heating demand.
