Résumé

A novel microchannel heat exchanger was experimentally studied compared with the conventional one in a split room air conditioning system (3.2kW). For the same frontal area, the inner volume of the new heat exchanger was reduced by 71% as compared to the conventional one. As a result, the system refrigerant charge of R22 was reduced by 28.3%, with almost no change in system performance. When R290 was dropped into the novel system, the refrigerant charge was reduced to 190g, about 50% of R22. While the cooling capacity decreased by 6.76%, the COP increased by 7.29% as compared to the R22 system, which has the same drop-in performance change as the tube-fin system. If other components of the air conditioning system are improved, such as reducing the compressor inner volume, changing the oil, reducing the diameter of connecting tubes, the system charge could be reduced to 150g, so as to meet IEC safety charge requirement.
