Résumé

Hydrocarbons are possible alternatives to HCFC and HFC to reduce impacts of refrigeration and air conditioning on the environment. The phase behavior study of a refrigerant and lubricant mixture is essential for the optimal design of systems. Measurements of mixtures thermophysical properties such as miscibility, solubility and viscosity are then to be performed to allow the choice of lubricant. Solubility of refrigerants in mineral oils is higher with hydrocarbons compared with R22. This paper presents experimental results for two POE (ISO68 and ISO32) oil mixtures R290 – a R22 potential substitute- in a temperature range from -20°C to 60°C. Results are compared with a standard R-22/Mineral ISO32 mixture. Static measurements show a limit of miscibility for this reference that is not observed with both R290-based pairs. Some thermodynamic mixture properties, like enthalpy, are modeled using the measurements of oil/refrigerant mixture solubility. A representation of the enthalpy diagram taking into account a defined oil circulation rate (OCR) is presented. Consequences on cooling capacity of residual refrigerant dissolution in oil leaving the evaporator are also discussed.
