Résumé

A great deal of attention has been paid to energy saving devices in place of conventional HVAC devices. The thermal energy storage system that uses the latent heat of a phase change material (PCM) for air-conditioning or heating has recently become popular because it does not require high electric power and it saves energy. Especially a phase change emulsion (PCE) as the PCM has been studied for its potential use as a functional fluid in thermal storage systems. The objective of the present study is to experimentally investigate both the phase change behavior of the nanoemulsion and the flow characteristics of the nanoemulsion flowing along a straight pipe. The nanoemulsion is one of the nanofluid including phase change nano particles. Tetradecane is utilized as the phase change material for the nanoemulsion. Experimental investigation is carried out by considering specific parameters and features such as the nanoemulsion flow velocity, and temperature. The relationships between the flow characteristics and specific parameters of the nanoemulsion are discussed in detail. As a result, the latent heat of fusion and the melting point of the nanoemulsion are investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Moreover, an evaluation of the pressure drop indicates that a flow characteristic is strongly affected by both the tetradecane concentration and the flow velocity of the nanoemulsion.
