Résumé

A building constructed under the Nearly Zero-Energy Standard makes efficient use of the sun, internal heat sources and heat recovery systems, thus presenting extremely low heating and cooling demands. Consequently, state-of-the-art thermoelectric systems emerge as competitive alternatives to vapor-compression, since its low efficiency becomes virtually irrelevant compared to the advantages, namely robustness, reliability, scalability, minimum maintenance, steady temperature control, and easy alternate between cooling and heating modes.

This paper presents the design and computational assessment of an air-to-air thermoelectric heat pump for heating, cooling and air-conditioning in a specific Nearly Zero-Energy building located in Pamplona, in the north of Spain. A global computational model has been implemented in TRNSYS, in combination with a specific model based on finite differences for the thermoelectric heat pump.

Coefficient of performance for the whole system reaches 0.98 and 2.35 in cooling and heating mode respectively, for annual energy consumption of 27.36 kWh/m2
