Résumé

A condensing boiler is unable to effectively recover a large amount of latent heat carried with the water vapor in the flue gas of natural gas boilers. A heat recovery system combining direct-contact condensation with liquid desiccant absorption is then proposed in this paper. The water vapor in the flue gas is partially condensed in the direct-condenser and further absorbed by the liquid desiccant. A case study of a gas-fired boiler with this heat recovery system shows that the boiler equivalent thermal efficiency based on the natural gas lower heating value can reach 104.7% when the return water temperature is 40°C. The relative humidity of the discharged flue gas is only 30%, which avoids the formation of white smoke. This system also contributes to the mitigation of NOx and CO2 emissions. A parametric analysis indicates that the lower the return water temperature, the better the performance of this system.
