Brief: MF 2000: a cooler way to travel
New MF 2000 trains are due to begin service as of 2007 in Paris, beginning with Métro lines 2, 5 and 9. The new model, designed by experts from Alstom. Bombardier and Technicatome, will integrate a new, enhanced cooled ventilation system which will circulate air inside the passenger cars, enabling an equivalent temperature to be obtained outside and inside the cars. The air-conditioning units tested initially were rejected as a non-viable option: this heavy, high-energy-consuming equipment actually rejected heat which was forced back into the tunnels and onto the platforms.
