Brief: WHO

WHO has donated three walk-in vaccine storage cold rooms worth 1.5 million birr (over 140 000 €) to Ethiopia. Two of the 30 m3 cold rooms were installed in Addis Ababa and the other in Mekele. They will be used to store USD 5 million worth of vaccine vials used each year to routinely immunize 2.6 million infants against 6 preventable diseases and 6 million women against tetanus. The cold rooms will also be used for polio vaccines within the framework of the massive National Polio Eradication Campaign. WHO has also enhanced cold chain and vaccine management in Ethiopia by rehabilitating existing cold rooms, training 70 technicians and drivers and procuring 6700 vaccine carriers.
