Briefs: M&S goes green

Marks & Spencer has just opened two new stores, one in Bournemouth and one in Galashields, UK. They will use up to 25% less energy and emit up to 95% less carbon dioxide than an average Simply Food store thanks to renewable energy. The stores are the first to use refrigeration systems running on hydrocarbon and CO2 refrigerants instead of HFCs. CO2 will also be used to air condition the stores. The refrigerators will also be fitted with guards to reduce cool air leakage, generating energy savings of 4%. M&S's "eco-stores" are part of a GBP 200 million 5-year green plan.
