Canadian government
The Canadian government recently proposed a set of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for homes and industrial products including large air-conditioning systems, commercial air-conditioning systems, room air conditioners, portable air conditioners, single package vertical air conditioners, and heat pumps. The proposed regulation would require reporting of electrical consumption for portable air conditioners of all specifications as of January 1, 2011.In addition, the standards are based on a number of United States and EU standards, e.g. the US Energy Star requirements as a compulsory standard for residential air conditioners and US Energy Policy Act 2005 for standards of commercial air-conditioning systems.
