Carbon Expo 2005
Climate change is one of the main challenges facing humanity. The creation of market-based mechanisms and a global market in greenhouse gas reductions is a significant instrument to address this challenge. One part of the global carbon market has been created by domestic and regional policy and incentive regimes by those countries seeking to meet their obligations under the framework of the Kyoto Protocol, while another part of the market is driven essentially by voluntary measures under national or regional jurisdictions outside of the Kyoto Protocol. The IETA/The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank)/Koelnmesse Trade Fair provides the setting for business to be done by all actors engaged in the carbon market. This second annual trade fair and conference for the global carbon market will take place 11-13 May, 2005 in Cologne, Germany. The cooperation of the Worldbank, to sponsor the participation of 25 developing countries, IETA and Koelnmesse will ensure that key exhibitors, speakers and visitors from all over the world will participate and contribute to another successful event. Over 1000 participants are expected. The 2004 event brought together 700 participants from 58 countries, 170 experts gave presentations in 4 plenary sessions and 55 workshops and over 33 articles on Carbon Expo were published.
