Chill factorE, the UK's longest and the world's widest indoor ski slope (180 m long and 100 m wide), also featuring a separate luge slope, has opened in Manchester. In the GBP 31 million facility, snow is produced at night: the air is lowered to -6°C and a mixture of compressed air and chilled water is fired into it to produce snow. During daytime operation, the temperature is maintained at around -1.5°C.
