A recent study published in Diabetes, June 2014 issue, shows that cooler bedrooms could enhance the production of « brown fat » that takes sugar out of the bloodstream to burn calories and maintain core temperature.
Subjects’ blood-sugar, insulin levels and daily caloric expenditure levels were tracked and shown to improve, along with their insulin sensitivity, when they slept at cooler temperatures (18.8°C). The metabolic enhancements disappeared after four weeks of sleeping at 27.2°C.
