On July 6, 2013, the International Cryosurgery Forum at Toho University, in Tokyo, Japan, was dedicated to the Celebration of the 80th Jubilee of Dr. Sajio Sumida, one of the pioneers of modern cryomedicine, currently the Honorary President of the International Society of Cryosurgery (ISC).

Dr. Sumida has been President of Commission C1 Cryobiology, Cryomedicine of the IIR for two consecutive terms (1984-1991) and he was designated honorary member of the IIR in 1991.

He animated IIR co-sponsored conferences on cryosurgery and always brought great care and noteworthy contributions to them.

He is still exceptionally active in the field, which tends to prove that refrigeration is a good means of preservation.
