Eco-friendly skiing in Spain
Dutch architects working for SnowWorld say they have found a way to build an indoor ski facility with a difference in warm Barcelona.

The facility would rely on recycled cooling that otherwise goes to waste. The aim is to take advantage of a byproduct of large amounts of LNG shipped to the city’s shoreline at temperatures of about -150°C.
The idea is to capture and reuse the cold that is released (currently into the sea) when the liquid is returned to a gaseous state, then store the cold in the form of ice.
Ecoenergies Barcelona Sud, a company created by the city authorities, and Dalkia, a unit of the French engineering giant Veolia and Electricité de France, hope to launch the project, said to be the first of its kind, in 2015.
Clients will be able to tap that cold store for air conditioning and other industrial processes — and, possibly, for applications year-round winter sports. If built, the Barcelona facility will cost about € 40 million.
